Ella Wright is Manager, Programs and Strategic Partnerships for UBC’s School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA). She is responsible for the student services and communications, marketing and events staff teams, as well as building internal and external partnerships to advance research and learning for the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs.
Ella has over fifteen years of experience working as a Canadian and UK diplomat in education, providing strategic advice and support in planning and developing national and international partnerships for research and community engagement. At the Canadian High Commission in the UK, she led on academic affairs, managing key governmental, research institute and university relationships established by the High Commissioner. This involved strong skills in networking, stakeholder engagement and an understanding of Canada’s education landscape, particularly the value-add of public research universities.
For the last five years, Ella worked as an Education Advisor for the UK Department for International Development (DFID). Here, she designed, managed and evaluated over $1 billion USD in development partnerships aimed to improve the education systems of developing nations. Her experience has been on the ground in Rwanda and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Ella also has UBC experience — she worked for five years in student recruitment & advising (student affairs) in the Faculty of Forestry as an International Advisor (private sector engagement) and in Career Services (student assistant).
Ella has a B.Sc. in Global Resource Systems from UBC (2008); an M.Sc. in Comparative and International Education from Oxford (2010); and a Graduate Program in Leadership and Equity in Education (Public Policy) from Harvard (2015).
