Francisco Javier Gómez-López is a PhD student in interdisciplinary studies at the University of British Columbia. Under the supervision of Dr. Pilar Riaño-Alcalá and Dr. Vanessa Oliveira Andreotti his current research examines rural identities, territoriality and community engagement focusing on peasant organizations in Colombia. Francisco has more than twelve years of experience working with rural communities and social movements in both Canada and Colombia, and he has co-organized several events about refugee communities, rural land issues and conflict resolution.
Francisco holds a Master of Arts on Global Issues from Athabasca University where he explored the role of peasants’ land rights and the agrarian movement in Colombia. During his bachelor degree as an Agronomist from the University of Caldas he focused on sustainability, food security and land conservation projects. He plans to apply his interdisciplinary expertise and strong social justice advocacy to help support and empower rural movements in a post-conflict scenario in Colombia.
